Military Tax

To my active military citizens: please note that while your income may be taxable by the federal government, many states who collect income taxes offer exemptions for their active military residents. There are many idiosyncrasies between state rules and recognitions of types of military income. Not all tax accountants are familiar with the laws and jargon of your profession, so be sure to ask questions its your hard-earned money, after all.

The following states do not tax its residents who earn a military income: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma

The following states do not tax their residents whose military income is earned outside their state: Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, West Virginia .
