Autologous or Directed Blood Donation

Volunteer blood donations are safe to be transfused to the majority of patients; however, on occasion, a patient may need a directed or autologous donation

A directed donor is someone who has been named by the patient and the patients doctor to donate for the patients transfusion needs.

An autologous donation is when a patient donates for themselves for an upcoming surgery.
