Research

The AACGS provides the Central Illinois community with a robust local research base, networking with other societies' local, state, and national resources. Our research has already uncovered numerous slave names and owners from the period of 1619 to 1860. African Americans have significantly contributed to building America and have often gone unrecognized. We are committed to researching and acknowledging the African Americans who helped shape our nation, which enhances self-esteem, tolerance, and diversity. Our members have discovered ancestors who were scholars, industrialists, and possibly even royalty.
